The Battle :: essays research papers
The Battle à à à à à The sun was touching the tree tops as it slowly descended in the horizon. Shadows were cast on the ground. The air was still hot and humid from the midday. A bit of a breeze was beginning to blow from the east sending a slight chill through our spines. We stepped unto the grounds and surveyed our surroundings. The playing field was perfect just like we had all imagined it would be. In the far distance there was woods along with a wide shallow stream. In front there was a field scattered with shields and barricades. We divided into units and went to gather up our gear. With our equipment in hand the whistle blows and friends become foes. Our mission was to survive, be the last team standing, we were to annihilate our opponents. With the signal given the war was under way. à à à à à My teammates and I gathered together at our base. There we came up with a battle plan. We were to separate and head in different directions eventually meeting up at an undisclosed location where we would ambush the enemyââ¬â¢s base . After everyone was clear on the objective we split up and went out to battle. à à à à à I ran across the field to the nearest shield and collected my thoughts. I could hear the orders being shouted from my fellow comrades in the distance as they engaged in a brawl with the enemy, ââ¬Å"duck, cover, fire, fireâ⬠. Soon the brawl ended with a small victory as they scattered out into the sunset. My heart was pounding in my stomach. The sounds of the earth were magnified in my ears. Then it came to me, this was a war, this was life or death. Shoot or be shot, the setting had changed. With the new thoughts in mind I held tightly onto my gun gathered all my strength and courage and charged into battle. à à à à à I made my way slowly and quietly into the deep woods, like a recon soldier. My mind and senses were focused on the enemy. As I made my way down the beaten path I spotted movement in a far bush. I dropped to the ground and pushed my body flat against the cold earth. After a few seconds of silence I knew that I had not been seen. I crawled around the bush so I could see my pray. She sat there so still she blended in with the green color of the leaves.

Discussion Non Economic Development Essay
* Why might a country in an early stage of economic and technical development want to limit importation of goods from more developed countries? They might want to sale the same products that these developed countries already have mastered and marketed well. It might be in there interest to enact protectionist legislation. They want to be able sale as much of their domestic product without competition from dominant developed countries firms. This would increase the market share available to sale to their citizens. * When the U.à S. enacts tariffs on lumber imported from Canada who in the U. S. benefits from that tariff (not counting the government itself since thatââ¬â¢s where the money paid as a tariff goes)? Whoââ¬â¢s hurt? U. S. lumber companies and its stakeholders all benefit from tariffs enacted by the Federal government against lumber imported. This makes U. S. lumber companies more competitive and limits the amount of Canadian lumber able to enter US markets. US consumers are hurt by these tariffs we are not able to get the best possible price. It is not good for commerce in general for the government to be creating artificial prices. The market should be creating prices through supply and demand from interactions between buyers and sellers. * What is the impact of global commerce on world peace? Global commerce is helpful in some areas but it can be the thing that will start the next world war. For centuries man has been fighting over the right to control markets and be able to do business in certain parts of the world. There are obviously not enough resources for every country to be strong producers of products as the United States. It is a fact of capitalism that everyone cannot be the rich. Every country canââ¬â¢t be sellers of the same product. The closest possible thing we can do is get some equality. I do not see how developing countries can advance to the level of US-like status without the US or other developed countries declining.

It also mentions how the organization will generate value for the future through effective teamwork, innovation and originality and embracing changes and opportunities B. Explain, in detail, its basis of competitive advantages using Porterââ¬â¢s generic strategies (show how this is supported through the firmââ¬â¢s value hain activities) Time Warner has four main subsidiaries which are Turner Broadcasting System, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Home Box Office, and Time Inc. Turnerââ¬â¢s entertainment networks include TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, tru TV, Turner Classic Movies and Boomerang. Turnerââ¬â¢s news networks consist of CNN and HLN. Each of the subsidiaries of Turner has their own specialties for example that TBS focus on contemporary comedies like The Big Bang Theory, TNT focus on drama, tru TV focus on real-life stories from a first-person perspective.Warner Bros. Entertainment include Warner Bros. wh ich produces and distributes feature films, Warner Bros. Television Group which develops, produces and distributes television series, reality-based entertainment shows and animation programs for the Companyââ¬â¢s network and third parties. Other subsidiaries under Warner Bros. Entertainment are Warner Bros. Animation Inc. , Warner Home Video, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Warner Bros. Consumer Products Inc. and DC Entertainment. The third segment of the organization is Time Inc. which is the largest magazine publisher in the U. S. based on commercial avenue and published 21 magazines in print in U. S. and over 70 magazines out of U. S. which covers the topic of style and entertainment, lifestyle, news and sports. Time/Warner Retail Sales & Marketing Inc. is also a subsidiary under Time Inc.. Home Box Office (HBO) is the nationââ¬â¢s most widely distributed multi-channel premium pay television service which consists of recently releas ed uncut and uncensored theatrical motion pictures.Based upon the brief introduction of various segments in the organization above it can be concluded that the competitive advantage of Time Warner is founded on differentiation. Porter suggested that a firm could only apply one of the three generic strategies or the company could be ââ¬Å"stuck in the middleâ⬠and will not achieve a competitive advantage. However, he also argued that firms could only succeed at multiple strategies by creating separate business units for each strategy. In Time Warner case differentiation strategy and differentiation focus strategy are both applied in achieve its competitive strategy. For networks and film business the company is competing with other film production and network companies. Television programming, feature films and news are the products of these industries which always have a massive audience scope and the companies try to differentiate themselves from competitors. The uniqueness of the product is the key in the competition that customers would like to pay a premium price for the products.Time Warner exploits its brand recognition and embraces innovation and creativity to product various different focused programs and movies to distinguish itself from its competitors. The competitive advantage is achieved through differentiation focus for HBO and magazines business because of their narrow market focus. Magazines like Essence and Golf face targeted audience instead of the broad scope audience. Time Warner has its own well developed distribution channel and sales& marketing company. Therefore, its differentiation could be effectively supported by the outbound logistics and Sales &Marketing sections in the value chain. C. Mintzbergââ¬â¢s family of strategies. Time Warner is involved in both the midstream and downstream business because it develops, produces and distributes feature films, TV programming and magazines. Time Warner distinguishes itself in achievin g competitive advantage through differentiation strategy and differentiation focus strategy. Time Warner elaborates its core business by market development strategy and diversification strategy.Time Warner develops its market mainly by geographic expansion and technology expansion. For example, Turner distributed 57 networks of it regional entertainment brands in over 200 countries. Time Inc. made all of itsââ¬â¢ U. S. magazines available at tablet editions. The CW broadcast network cooperated with Netflix. Inc. and Hulu to expand its distribution channel. Time Warner extends its core business by the strategies of entry and control and listening. Cultural Expectation of Media essays
Cultural Expectation of Media essays This essay is based on many of my own observations and does not reflect the opionions of any particular person/persons, organization, group, etc. This essay was created from personal introspection and by observing different forms of media I lead a discussion group for preparation of this review. The group focused on cultural expectations and the media and discussed an overview of media influence. The focus of the groups discussion was that media uses specific gender roles and stereotypes in an attempt to persuade the public to accept their beliefs. The main idea behind the group discussion was that forms of media such as television and print display various meanings and images that are directed to specifics groups in society. The groups discussion generally focused on the advertisements, T.V. shows, music, and print material such as books and magazines that targeted men and women. The argument that the group stressed was that media uses symbolism and underlying motives to convey m essages, sell products, and create idealistic settings that are stereotypically misleading and untrue. As a group, we had a collarborative effort. Each question allowed the group to explore the aspects of gender stereotypes in different ways. Miriam Whites article about gender roles and the fishery. The most important idea that we gained from Whites article is that stereotypes of women have existed for many years in Newfoundland due to government and industry involvement in the fishery. Men were the providers and the women stayed home and took care of the household. Modernization of the fishery segregated women as governments tried to keep men fishing and women onshore in the fish plants. Actually, the government and fishing industry saw women as a consumers instead of individuals that were capable of successfully providing for their family. Whites article mentions advertisements. This was a f...

Grammar and Style Tips in Microsoft Word If youââ¬â¢ve used Microsoft Word before, you may have seen squiggly lines under words or phrases. This is how Word highlights errors. For example: Here, for instance, we have two ââ¬Å"errorsâ⬠highlighted. The red line indicates a spelling mistake. The blue line, however, indicates a stylistic issue. If we then right click and select Grammar from the menu, Word suggests using the active voice instead. This is helpful because, while the passive voice is not technically incorrect, the active voice would be more concise. But you should take care when following Microsoft Wordââ¬â¢s stylistic advice, as it does get things wrong.
